Ruth Roman is the youngest daughter born to Lithuanian as well as Jewish parents Mary Pauline Gold (Gold) & Abraham Roman in Lynn, Massachusetts. As a young girl the carnival barker father died, leaving Ruth's mother with no choice but to work as a cleaning woman and waitress to feed the family. Ruth was raised in the poor Boston Tenement area in Massachusetts. She attended school in Boston. She left school after two years, to go into acting. This was not an easy path to follow. Even though she got a job at a theatre in New York posing as a writer for a mystery publication but no theater jobs was offered. Then, after a time as a club hat girl and a club hat girl, she made the decision to go home to the United States and quit the job she was working in. In Boston, she worked to make ends meet as an usherette throughout the day, and in the evening, she performed with the New England Repertory Company, the first job she had that was steady. Also, she studied drama. She ultimately graduated from Bishop-Lee Theatre School.
